The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) set out 11 recommended disclosures in four areas: governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets. It became the model for most climate reporting rules. The task force was disbanded in 2023 after finishing its work, and monitoring passed to the IFRS Foundation. IFRS S2 builds on the TCFD structure.
The recommendations are voluntary, but many regimes make them mandatory in some form: for example UK climate-related disclosures for large companies and listed issuers, and the climate parts of several ISSB-based regimes.
