ESG reporting rules in India

India’s main requirement is SEBI’s BRSR, mandatory for the top 1,000 listed companies, with a BRSR Core set of indicators that needs assurance. Indian exporters to the EU also need to prepare for CBAM, and companies with EU turnover may meet CSRD requests from customers.

  • BRSR

The top 1,000 listed companies by market capitalisation file a BRSR in their annual report. Other companies can report voluntarily.

  • BRSR Core assurance

A smaller set of indicators that needs reasonable assurance or assessment, phased by company size. All top 1,000 companies are covered from FY 2026–27, when value-chain disclosures also start for major partners.
